I think I’m starting to get bit by the travel bug. The last time I went beyond a neighboring state was something like 6 years ago, and all the major trips (i.e. flight) I’ve ever taken were long enough ago that I don’t really remember them. I’m itching to go somewhere again.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m think Vancouver. I can take a 2-3 day cruise up the coast and then spend the rest of my time exploring the city and the national parks around it.

Now’s a great time to see the Grand Canyon.

I could I guess. The southwest is just about the only part of the country I haven’t been to.

Make a week out of it. Do the Grand Canyon, experience the wonder that is Las Vegas at night, and most importantly, see the Hoover Dam.

I have actually been to Vegas but I never left the city.

It’s a great trip just as long as you aren’t bringing an animal. We brought dog with, and the hotel price tripled.

I’d stay away from cruises dude. I’m fairly well-traveled, and I’ve come to realize that the best part of traveling is getting down with the locals. Digging in and experiencing some culture (real culture, not just looking at paintings and buildings and shit) and hearing stories and seeing what it’s like to live in another part of the world for a few days. You can’t really get that drinking Pina Coladas while you hop from tourist port to tourist port where there’s nothing to do but buy overpriced chachkies and eat chicken fingers.

I have a chance to go to Japan in 2 weeks ... I have to take it, I think. It’s not easy for me to leave the apartment, much less Manhattan. But I think it’s time.

DO IT. Avoid the cruise and just ride the ferries.

I already live on an island, my whole life is ferries :)

What island is a 2-3 day cruise from Vancouver?

Was just thinking that myself. I’m debating a road trip at the end of the month, either Yellowstone/Tetons or Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Sand Dunes Nat’l Park.

Just do it. Cruising is easy, unpack once and you wake up in a new place everyday. Although your experience really depends on which cruise line you pick. The last two cruises I went on were Norwegian, they were great if you paid extra for everything. The only other two cruises I have been on were Princess. They were top notch, didn't have to pay extra for better service, very nice and clean ships. If you do your research you can have a great vacation and not be missing out. Try looking at Cruisecritic.com people there are very helpful.

Do it! Smart (meaning, don’t finance it) travel is always a solid investment. Vancouver is a lovely choice. The US Southwest is another excellent option (Grand Canyon is true bucket list material). Anything involving a passport will make you a better person in at least some small but important way. I count even my worst trip (work, cold and dismal, not exotic, rental car break-in with stolen passport, and skeezy hotel) as a great experience. Travel and enjoy. It’s a big world, and an infinite universe. Apprehend as much as you can, because it all passes too quickly.

Western NY in the early Summer or Spring. There’s so many great things to see like Niagara Falls, Letchworth State Park, Zoar Valley, you could hike for days. Plus the food is amazing.

If you rent a car and head over to Victoria, a decent way to kill half a day is to drive this loop. The section from Lake Cowichan to Port Renfrew is a wicked drive through a sparsely populated area, it’s mainly a logging road, but it’s paved. At Port Renfrew there’s Juan De Fuca provincial park that has small loop on the main trail that’s about 6km and takes you out to a couple of interesting shoreline areas (the full trail is like 47km or something). Then the drive back to Victoria from Port Renfrew is pretty sweet as well.
